Choosing Necklace Length & Width: Inches and Millimeters
Choosing a necklace is easier when you consider length and width separately. First decide where it should sit with your usual clothes, then compare its volume.
01. Measure an existing chain or use string
Lay a necklace you like straight and measure it including the clasp. Alternatively, place string around your neck and check the desired position in a mirror before measuring. Consider collars and hoods. The same length sits differently depending on your neck and build.
| inch | Approximate centimeters |
|---|---|
| 16 | 40.6 |
| 18 | 45.7 |
| 20 | 50.8 |
| 22 | 55.9 |
| 24 | 61.0 |
This is a conversion table. Available lengths vary by product. Check the options and product dimensions before ordering.
02. 3mm and 5mm create different impressions at the same length
For the same tennis chain style, compare the mm widths in the names. Hold paper strips cut to 3mm and 5mm against your neckline to visualize the difference. Paper does not reproduce thickness, weight or sparkle, so compare the product photos as well.
Tennis chains and Cuban links have different shapes and thicknesses even at the same width. Equal width does not guarantee the same fit.
03. Use video to assess movement and volume
The real product video of the 20mm Cuban necklace helps show its volume. The wearer or display has a different neck size from yours, so combine what you see with your measurements rather than choosing length from the video alone.
